FRANCO-SPANISH WINERY was founded in 1890 thanks to the apogee Rioja lived in the XIX century, when the French moved into the region to replace with Rioja wines their dying by the attack of the plague of phylloxera vineyards fi. It was the beginning of the working of the "fi ne wines of Rioja". All this led to Frederick Anglade Saurat Bordeaux in 1890 to found "Bodegas Franco-Spanish" merger of France (Franco) and Spain (Spanish). A year after the first harvest, which is done born Diamond , Royal and "Burgundy style" in the 50s renamed Rioja Bordon .
For the 125th anniversary, we published the book: 125 years. Bodegas Franco-Spanish. Witness the story of Logrono. , where it picks up not only the history of the winery but the most important milestones in the history of Logrono.
Its privileged location on the banks of the Ebro River, has made him a witness to the history of Logrono. In its 125 years of history he has received many illustrious visitors among which are those of people like Hemingway or King Alfonso XIII. Eguizábal held by the family since 1983, today it is involved in new projects and becoming a leader among the leisure and culture with its wine tourism proposals.
Oenologist
Carlos Estecha is Technical Director of Bodegas Franco-Spanish. Degree in oenology from the University of Rovira i Virgili (Spain), specializes in EnotecnologÃa and Winemaking, in addition to a degree in Industrial Relations from the University of La Rioja.
As someone very entrusted to organizational and work associations, he has been a board member of the Spanish Federation of Winemakers Association and the Association of Winemakers of Rioja. He is a member of the Tasting Committee of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Rioja.
Frequent contributor informative tasks for understanding Rioja wines. Lectures, symposia, conferences and collaboration especilializadas magazines, are also functions of a person strongly committed to their work.
