"Saturated, deep purple-ruby. Fragrant aromas of black cherry, blackberry and licorice, with sexy oak spice and vanilla notes emerging with aeration. Deep and concentrated but vibrant too, showing ripe, penetrating dark cherry and blackcurrant flavors complicated by botanical herbs, coffee and tar. Finishes chewy and long, with a hint of sweetness but with bright acidity providing welcome lift. The wine's firm tannins are uncommonly suave for sagrantino. This offers early accessibility for the variety but will also reward patience. Very successful." Reviewed March 2013 |
Description:
"This silky and substantial red wine is made from 100% Sagrantino, a highly-esteemed grape indigenous to the Montefalco area of Umbria. Locals unanimously agree that the variety is at its finest in the hills surrounding Gualdo Cattaneo. Here, the combination of microclimate, elevation, and unique soils makes it possible to obtain wines of truly exceptional character. The wine name and label pay tribute to Riccardo Cotarella's father and first grandson.
Intense ruby-red in color, intoxicating aromas of black fruit and blackberry complement undertones of black cherry, tobacco, and graphite. On the palate, fine-grained tannins and well-integrated alcohol result in a silky mouthfeel and perfect structural balance." - Importer
