"Also a big, ripe effort, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Saint Georges (100% Grenache aged 18 months in barrel) exhibits perfumed aromas of tobacco leaf, dried herbs, underbrush and spice to go with full-bodied richness, savory tannin and ample length. It's certainly a success in the vintage and is a gorgeous Chateauneuf to drink over the coming decade. Drink now-2023." Reviewed 10/2013 |
Description:
This high-quality estate is run by Coralie Goumarre and covers roughly 120 acres in Cotes du Rhones and a tiny 4 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape. Located mostly in the northeastern part of the appellation, she produces two red Chateauneufs and one white. In addition to the 2011s and 2012 reviewed here (which are well worth seeking out), don't miss her 2010s!
Winery Tasting Notes
"96 years old vines exclusively of Grenache. With a very low yield, this parcel patiently produces grapes of great purity. Wild strawberries, grilled raspberries, minty spices of pine and cedar, the nose is both powerful and delicate. Softness, complexity of red fruits, lightly balsamic, plenty of firm, silky tannins and long rich and classic finish."
The Domaine
Coralie is the first woman to take the destiny of the family estate, and for 9 generations.
Before she and her parents Jean-Pierre and Pierrette, Eloi and Jean-Francoise his ancestors left their footprints the field. In turn this "vigneRhone" believes gives new impetus to the field Galevan between modernity, independence and happiness. It is based on a knowledge passed as an inheritance.
On this estate of 60 ha in one piece including 56 vineyards, all the great Rhone Valley varietals are represented: Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan for the reds; Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne and Bourboulenc for whites. The average age of the vines is 55 years. They produce small quantities of high quality grapes. The land is worked with great respect and in organic farming plot by plot. There is no great wine without great grapes ... Never the field also has to its name. Besides evoking an exceptional terroir, the name of Galevan also symbolizes the balance between knowledge and freedom of creation, the roundness of wines and poetic inspiration, steadfastness and challenge. Of strong character, Coralie Goumarre research above all balance. This is his quest every day not deny anything, but offer next inspiration, without going into too narrow frames, great wines, just ... .. The names of the wines and the care taken in their background, the emblem affixed on each of them full of femininity and elegance ... no doubt, the very personal tone Coralie is given. It will now count on this creative wine qualitative ambitions affirmed and see included Galevan the Domain bottles on the best tables
