91 Pts Monica Larner - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The 2011 Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera is a blend of 50% Nero di Troia, 35% Montepulciano and 15% Bombino Bianco. Alberto Longo is one of the most prolific and articulate narrators of this little-known DOC appellation in the Dauno Apennines, just south of the Gargano peninsula (the "spur" on the "boot" of Italy). Thanks to the warm vintage, this edition shows a bold, ripe style with dark berry jam and deep layers of fruit. The wine exhibits a dark purple color with little light penetration. It is highly drinkable and generous in a very frank, confident and upfront manner. Fresh acidity does a good job of countering the ripeness of the fruit. Alberto Longo is one of the rising stars of Puglia. His claim to fame is the Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera appellation that this estate brought to worldwide attention in single-handed fashion. Alberto Longo represents the energy and dynamic thinking now common among a new generation of winemakers in Southern Italy. " |
Description:
"Intense ruby red/purple color. Varietal, intense and persistent, rich fragrance of wild berries. Well-balanced, round, with good body and balanced tannins." - Winery
Winery:
"The winery is located in Lucera at nineteenth century farm that Alberto Longo chose as the main office and restored with the aim of producing high quality wines and to offer a qualified and professional welcome. Manuscripts in the company show that here stood the old cellar of the Cavalli, a major family of Lucera. In those that were once used like wheat, are now kept high-tech equipment that can monitor and manage every stage of production, from fermentation to bottling. Striking is the barrel room where light, temperature and humidity controlled to ensure optimal conditions for wine aging. Outside, the charming landscape of the Castle of Lucera, and rows of Falanghina, Montepulciano, Nero di Troia and Bombino Bianco, which tell the story of this extraordinary area. An oak of the thirteenth century, among the trees cataloged by WWF, overlooking the winery and vineyard with its majestic branches." - Winery
