At the risk of sounding like a fanboy for the 10th time, I’m with tommyr on this one. Being in finance I deal with more sheister gurus than you can imagine. But Gary’s legit and you can tell, and that’s why I like him and the whole operation as much as I do. As for the hype: hey man, you’re allowed to get excited about certain things. I wasn’t all that excited about the Brunello offering that was mega-hyped a while back, but I’m not all that big on Brunello so that’s that. If it were something silly like a Cote Rotie on the other hand…

GaryV hyping wine? He always lists the ratings of all the “experts,” even if lower than the highest rating accorded, he disses wines in his inventory if not to his liking and, unlike Zachy’s, he doesn’t prop up the retail price by 25% in order to pretend to discount and he doesn’t currently sell Sierra Carche and Pico Madama (like Zachy’s now does). And he openly admits to being a Jets’ fan. He might be enthusiastic but he’s got a load more integrity than almost any other wine merchant in the country (and loads more than any Wine Advocate reviewer).

@sneener… Labastida Castillo Rioja Reserva 2001. It’s on the front page for a mere 14.98 Not a bad table wine from Spain. Nothing that you can cellar because it’s nearing it’s end but with the free shipping and me needing everyday wines, I couldn’t pass.
